Making tools 'by halves' saves time and money
Toolcraft came up with novel way to reduce the complexity of injection mould tools and so save money for our client, Golf-Tech.
Golf-Tech was developing a golf ball server and had initial injection moulding designs done by a design house. However, this original design would have needed withdrawing parts in the injection moulding tool, adding significant cost. Instead, Toolcraft's design service: |

split the mouldings into two half cylinders, so that the tool did not need a withdrawing part

made the tool as an insert which fitted into one of our standard bolsters

allowed for the potential to double throughput from the same tool at a later date.

Injection moulding redesign service improves seal
For another of our customers, we redesigned 2 steel valve seating rings in tough plastic and we achieved a better seal at a much lower cost than the steel rings our customer was using before.
Tests on the injection moulding made of acetal showed the plastic to 'give' a little, making an even better seal than the steel at a far lower cost. |

The product also had 8 radial holes which were particularly expensive to machine in steel. Instead, we incorporated them into the redesigned injection moulding tool, eliminating post moulding machining.
Designing 'out' the time consuming cutting of the holes was crucial in cutting costs. We managed to do this on 1 mould tool without retracting cores which would have slowed the process and increased tool costs. See more examples of our injection moulding solutions.
