Toolcraft Plastics - Moulding Your Ideas
We're just BURSTing to tell you about this !

This month, we're excited to be involved in an interesting and fun project. Toolcraft is proud to support the Bath University Racing Submarine Team (BURST) in its bid to win the 12th human powered International Submarine Races (ISR) in Maryland, USA.

The ISR is a 100m long, 6m deep underwater time trial to see who can clock the fastest speed in a human powered submarine. Each team must develop a one or two-person "Wet" submarine. Crew members breathe SCUBA from the air supply carried aboard. Each submarine is unique, designed from scratch and relies upon novel techniques for propulsion and guidance.

The BURST team came to Toolcraft with their mould for the plastic submarine window. As this wasn't vacuum forming ready, we helped them convert it into a vacuum forming tool and moulded the window in 4mm clear PETG. Here you can see it mounted in place on the 'Minerva'. >>

The race took place in June 2013 – check out how they did on their website.

When you're ready to start your own custom vacuum forming project, get in touch.
